How to make sausage pasta in Instant pot or pressure cooker?
- Cook the sausage- In the Instant Pot on the Sauté setting.
- Add in- Pasta sauce, water, pasta, herbs, and spices.
- Lock and seal lid- Then cook on Manual mode.
- Set up venting- And release the pressure pressure.
- Add green peppers- And place on Simmer mode for a few minutes until pasta is fully cooked.
What to serve with pasta
- Bread- Try breadsticks, dinner rolls, cheesy bread, garlic bread, or homemade biscuits.
- Vegetables- Such as Oven Roasted Vegetables (One Pan), fresh cut veggies with a side ranch, or even steamed vegetables will create a wonderful balanced meal.
- Salads- Like this Easy Green Salad (One Bowl), Easy Kale Salad (One Bowl), or this Best Summer Salad (One Bowl).
Tips and techniques
- Be sure to use sausage links- And not ground sausage in this recipe.
- Adjust the amount of red chili flakes- Based on your personal preference.
- Don't add the green peppers in the beginning- Because then they will become very soft.
- Don't cook the pasta for too long- Because the pasta will become a disgusting, over-cooked mess.
- Either water or broth can be used- Obviously, broth adds a little more flavor but make sure it's low sodium.
- Use the full 2 jars of pasta- If you want this recipe to be very saucy. I personally used just one jar for a less saucy version.
Recipe FAQs
You can use either for this recipe, but broth will add more flavor. Just make sure it's low sodium broth.
There are various different options, but for this recipe, I like Penne pasta the best. You can also use something similar like Rigatoni.

- Refrigerate- Leftovers can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat before serving.

This looks good and especially easy since the pasta doesn't have to be cooked separately. My only suggestion is that if adding shrimp, do not cook with the sausage, as it will be way overcooked and rubbery. It should be the very last ingredient added just a few minutes before the dish is finished cooking.

Delicious and quick. Will definitely make again. I used a chicken sausage — tomato and basil and arabiatta sauce. Only one jar. Also subbed gemelli for penne so cooked for just five minutes. Perfect results.

Made it just as written. Was wonderful and filled the void left by our Italian restaurant closing! This is the exact dish we always ordered, and I’m glad I can now make it for the family!

So sorry to hear about your favorite restaurant closing. I know what that feels like. I am beyond happy to hear this recipe worked out well for you!

When do you slice the sausage? your photo has sliced sausage.
Abeer Rizvi says
That's entirely up to you. You can do it in the beginning on the end.

Thanks! My fiancé is an amazing cook but me, not so much! I made this today for dinner so he didn’t have to cook. It was great! Easy enough for this inexperienced cook and tasty enough for his experienced taste buds! I added A super reduced balasmic on top since we use it for Caprese salad and it baked onto The chicken really well. This recipe is a keeper!
